Good news from the Northern front. The results are in from the
Second Annual Inter-Baronial Archery Challenge and the Rhydderich Hael
was once again victorious. Our small, but accurate, band of Archers
prevailed (see report in the Ice Dragon & Check out the web
for Alexander’s photos). Archery is still being held indoors
until the mid or end of April depending on the conditions at La Salle Archery
Club. Once we move outdoors, practices will again be on Thursday nights
from 6:30 until dark. There might be the possibility of having a
second day of shooting depending on input from the archers because it is
the start of weekend event season.

Inter-Baronial Archery Challenge Part Deux
Even after being threatened with a beating by a rolled up newspaper by Lord Llywyllyn, the Captain of the Rising Waters team the valiant Hael Hound archers traveled to northern territory bow in hand to take part in the Inter-Baronial Archery Challenge. This year’s challenge was a new twist on the old game of Scrabble, now known as “Spelling for Archers”. A target consisting of fifteen letter blocks arranged three blocks across and five down having five vowels and ten consonants. The object of the game was to shoot six arrows at the target and try to spell a word, points were given for direct hits on the letters and near hits on the area around the letters, while minus points were given if you hit the border area around the white.
This being said the three teams lined up for the shoot. The Rising Waters team had fifteen (15) Archers, Ben Dunfirth had five (5) Archers and the Rhydderich Hael had eight (8) Archers. By the end of the shoot only three words were spelled, Baron Connor Bowsplitter (New)(30 pts), Lord François Belgraunde (Hub)(24 pts), Baron Reynard de Foch (Won) (21 pts) (from Rising Waters) were the top three Archers. An overall team score was calculated by dividing the total team points by the number of archers participating. The Hael took first place, Rising Waters second and Ben Dunfirth third. The team prize basket was distributed among all.
The end of the story is that the Rhydderich Hael once again took the
first leg of this Second year of the Inter-Baronial Archery Challenge,
and now we must prepare to defend it at the next leg of the contest to
be held at the Brass Ring Thing in June.

Æthelmearc 12th night may be a day of peaceful revelry with a little marshal activity on the side, but the night before belongs to the Archers.
An invitation goes out to all the Archers who may be attending the event and will be arriving the evening before to join the Rhydderich Hael Archers at our regularly scheduled Friday evening indoor practice on January 6th 2006 at Doc's Archery from 7:00 – 9:00pm. The site has both a regular 20-yard range along with a video archery range. The video range requires the use of arrows with interchangeable tips (Fiberglass, Aluminum, ect.) so that special points can be attached. Cost for shooting on the regular range is $5.00 per person for two (2) hours of shooting. The cost for the video range varies with the number of shooters on at one time. There will also be a specialty target shoot held for prizes.
Directions will be posted closer to time of the event. If interested

It is now that time of the year for us to move indoors for Archery. Sad to say that summer is gone, but it has to be said. Now we have to keep our skills up by shooing at small targets and weird objects. Yes kiddies, Belgraunde has more novelty targets for you to shoot at. Starting in November we will be having some novelty shoots with of all things maybe a prize or two. We will be holding Archery practices at Doc’s Archery for the rest of the season on Friday nights from 7:00 – 9:00. Directions will be posted to both the e- group and on the Hael web page. If you have any questions about dates and times check the e-group or call me direct 310-3950 (cell), 633-9517 (home) or you can contact my deputy Rendell at 837-2431.
By the time you read this our Hael Archers will have competed in the last leg of the Inter-Baronial Archery Challenge for 2005. It is my hope that it will continue through many years to come with our Canadian cousins.
Also, I have had word from Geoffrey of Hamburg and he has come through
for us by reconstructing the silkscreen of the “Original Hale Hounds” shirt.
The shirts along with a Banner for the Hounds are on their way to me.
So any Archer or aspiring be Archer that would like one please contact
me and I will see if we have your size. The prices for the
shirts will be $10.00 each (S – L) & $15.00 (XL – 2X)
